Fiber has been used as a fine art medium for more than a thousand years.  Created primarily for decorative and aesthetic purposes, a tapestry is woven from animal fibers.  Felt, on the other hand is non-woven and the oldest form of fabric known to humankind. It predates weaving and knitting and is produced by matting, condensing and pressing fibers.
